Notecard Topics

Legalization of Marijuana- I'm interested because with marijuana being legalized how the government will react to it by taxing it, growing it and distributing it. Also the way the product will be used by people, and how it will be distributed through hospitals/ pharmacy's and who could get it. Also, the way the law will react, since the crime rate is very highly anticipated to distributing marijuana illegally how those rules will be fixed or edited and what will happen to the people doing time in prison for marijuana possession will happen.

Salary of Professional Athletes- This is fascinating because some players are paid way to much for what their performance really stands for, others are highly underpaid, and first year players such as rookies, get either way to much money, and the one's picked later in the draft, whom eventually are break-out players don't get their earnings. Needless to say, a player who is 34 years of age gets a new 5 year deal worth $92.1 million, please, he wont even last 2 years.

College athletes leaving early for professional level sports- This is highly recognized because some athletes leave after one year of eligibility in college, just to make millions, and once their career is over they can't fall back on education. none the less, some players leave high school and skip college, others leave high school after graduation, go to a foreign or European league for a year and then become a professional athlete.

Gambling- Here this is legal, but the fact it turns out to be more than a simple bet for fun at a casino, to betting your own home on a horse race is ridiculous. Especially in sports where ref's are betting on games and changing/ adding points, or making calls against certain players just so the other team has the opportunity to take advantage and win is astounding. Then baseball athletes betting against their own team.

  1. Gambling is a very controversial topic. People actually end up becoming addicted to gambling and losing everything they ever had. That's exactly why there are so many homeless people in las vegas because if you lose there's no way out.

  2. Damn those are some good topics. The 2nd and 3rd are very contraversial and would make good research papers. I would enjoy reading about either of those topics. I think that you could find strong supporters on both sides of the fence for the 2 of them.

  3. Hi Corey,
Great topics! I think my favorite is a tie between two and three. Salaries for professional athletes and players leaving college early are both interesting twists on the "perk of fame." From what you've told us about yourself so far, I think the sports angle is right up your alley!

  5. Gambling is a very big addiction where people are willing to bet on everything they have. The greater the bets become the more controversial gambling becomes as well. It has caused even huge associations such as the NBA to be questionable because of the amount of money put into gambling.

  6. I like all of your topics. I think that you could write about any of them, and argue both sides of the spectrum

  7. I agree with you on legalizing marijuana, if the government were to sell it and tax it, it would definately help the economy out a lot. I think it's a really interesting topic that you should write about. I also like your second topic, I think a doctor who saves lives should be paid more than an athlete who entertains.

  8. I think that topic 2 or 3 is a "homerun!" ;) Sorry, bad pun i know. Seriously though, I have always thought that sports players earn way too much money. I think there should be a cap and a minimum salary for all pro sports to make it more even-ed out. Great topics!

  9. While gambling is a really good topic to converse on, I think that it would be better for you to discuss topics 2 and 3, they seem to fit you well and therefore, it will be easy to write an essay on.

  10. Legalizing marijuna-how the government would sell/tax and distubute it and how the people using it would benefit or use the drug correctly
Salaries- how a cap/ standard should be set for athletes in determining thier equal value for their performance
College athletes- how the althetes choose money over education and what they expect from thier future after retirement or injury
Gambling- What is the point in loosing money over and over and gaining it back (hopefully) and how this addiction can be cured
